Wolters Kluwer Digital Imprint Design System
Challenge
Wolters Kluwer had a very large backlog of print titles that were very popular, but had a number of challenges:
Many were multi-volume titles with thousands of pages of content updated on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly or annually), in the form of loose-leaf pages that replaced existing pages or were added to the volumes
Many titles were becoming less profitable due to production and distribution costs and a growing desire among customers for digital content
Customers maintained hundreds of annotations on Post-its attached to pages, which they had to transfer from the old pages to the new ones with each revision
Attorneys had unique needs, such as robust annotation and dynamic updating, that were not met by existing eReader tools
Action
Create a proprietary e-Reader that supports the legal research process along with a digital imprint design system that promotes a common identity, but allows significant product differentiation
Create a uniform experience across mobile applications
Allows differentiation among related products
Result
The WK eReader:
Re-engages customers to reinvigorate numerous titles
Is easily extensible for future products
Maintains the Wolters Kluwer brand
Design System extended to other product lines such as the Legal News Dailies
